An obvious one but many people sometimes forget - dispose of waste
appropriately. India has an increasing problem regarding rubbish and as tourists
we should respect this fragile environment as much as possible. If you have been
drinking wine or anything from a glass bottle, it is paramount that you do not
throw it anywhere that has an abundance of flora and
fauna.

Limit your use of plastic objects i.e bags or bottles.

Use eco-friendly products that will not pollute the rivers.

I found a place called Kovalam Beach Hotel, Kerala which specialises in providing exceptionaly high standards and puts sustainability at the forefront of its service - http://www.kovalambeachhotel.com/about.html
check out their front page for an exhaustive list of what they have done to ensure
maximum eco-friendlyness......you can definately sleep guilt free at this place. furthermore, they provide yoga classes and Ayurveda treatment - nice :)

Beautiful Varkala
Considered to be one of the top 10 beaches of the world, this small coastal paradise is located 51km from Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala. A refreshing change from Kerala's usual terrain as Varkala has vast cliffs - beautiful to watch the sunrise from. Go out of season during March through to November to get the best from this gorgeous place. It is thought that the Papanasam beach (meaning ‘destruction of sins') has special medicinal healing powers so if you are lucky, you may see a local perform a ritual for the dead. Varkala's tourism has been expanding over the past 8 years so get in there quick to witness what it has to offer. VARKALA MARINE PALACE is a family run hotel located there and has a certificiate of excellence from tripadvisor.
