The mysterious pink lake - Middle Island, Recherche Archipelago, Western Australia,

Located just 20 minutes away from the Great Barrier Reef and nestled deeply amongst the World Heritage listed Daintree National Park, the Daintree Wilderness Lodge is undoubtedly one of the best eco-friendly accommodations I have seen so far. Often referred to as the ‘Botanical Art’, this place has received a certificate of excellence from Tripadvisor and has been voted number one for speciality lodging in Diwan. Furthermore, it has been awarded an Advanced Eco Certification.

The website is clean, crisp and extremely aesthetically pleasing. The colours are bright, bold and beautiful, a true reflection of the environment surrounding the Daintree Wilderness Lodge. Users can easily navigate through Daintree’s site and minimal writing means that you aren’t trawling through too much info. So, what about Daintree Wildnerness Lodge? After having a browse, I found how this place has provided guests with a true eco-friendly
experience and helps minimise your ecological footprint:

· Organically grown and ethically sourced produce

· Regular support and donations to Rescue Rainforest Foundation, WWF, Greenpeace and local communities.

· Spring water is supplied for drinking and washing with no chemicals/chlorine.

· Cleaning products are all non-toxic, biodegradable and free of petrochemicals and
phosphates.

· No access to mains electricity, therefore it uses generated power to reduce carbon
emission.

· Is strict on killing no animals. All organisms are considered vital to the life cycle in the
rainforest.

All cabins have their own walkway and a unique viewing sunroof – lovely for when you wake up in the morning and want to gaze at the green palms above your head…

If you are feeling adventurous, then head through the rainforest for a walk. You may spot the Cassowary or the bright Ulyssus butterfly.

When I checked for May 2013, prices were at $290 per night for 2 persons including breakfast, nature walk and DVD hire. If you stay three nights or more, prices are reduced.

If you can afford it, this place is a must-see, even just for one night. Check out Tripadvisor for reviews.
